From Santa Marta (the most common route)
Minca is about 45–60 minutes from Santa Marta on a mountain road. Three main ways:
- Colectivo (shared van): normally departs during the day from the public market area. Confirm the exact stop, fare and last departure locally.
- Taxi or private transfer: more comfortable and direct, especially with luggage or a group. Agree the fare before leaving.
- Pre-arranged transfer: useful when your accommodation is above town or your flight arrives late.
From Cartagena
There’s no common direct route. First reach Santa Marta (a 4–5 hour bus or a connecting flight) and continue to Minca by colectivo or taxi. Some operators offer private door-to-door transfers from Cartagena.
From the airport (Santa Marta – SMR)
From Simón Bolívar Airport you can take a direct taxi to Minca (about 1 hour) or go to central Santa Marta first and grab a colectivo. Arranging the transfer with your accommodation is usually easiest when arriving with luggage.
Getting around Minca
The town is small and walkable. For the mountain attractions — Pozo Azul, Marinka Waterfall or Cerro Kennedy — the star option is the motorbike taxi. Agree the price before you set off.
Practical tips
- Bring cash: ATMs are scarce in Minca and many places don’t take card.
- Travel by day: the mountain road is safer and more enjoyable in daylight.
- Coordinate pickup with your accommodation if you arrive with large bags.
